Blah, Blah, Blah, Ants
In case you missed it - In the beginning...
Current progress report on the Collective:
Friday, January 6 - Around 11 PM
The "rest area" side of the habitat. Note that the surface of the gel is still smooth and undisturbed. They have even filled in one of the starter holes. The ants are "parked" and sleeping.
Meanwhile, this is the other half of the habitat, under construction, after several hours. Note the pieces of gel that look like white rocks piled up. This is the debris they are carrying out of the tunnel. One or two ants are down at the bottom of the tunnel, two ants are waiting at the top to haul up pieces of gel and the ant on the far left is stacking.
The back side of the habitat, showing how the tunnel has progressed. The ants have discovered that they can make a three-sided tunnel if they tunnel against the side of the habitat. This is way cool because although the gel is transparent, this is an unobstructed view of them biting off chunks of gel with their mandibles. There are four ants in the tunnel - two are digging, two are removing debris, the ants on top are stackers.
Saturday, January 7 - Around 12 PM
A close-up of the ants in their tunnel. Note the nasty, big, pointy teeth on the last ant to the left!
The habitat - the rest area is to the left, work-zone to the right. The piles of debris are now a continuous raised elevation. The sleeping area has remained undisturbed.

Progress. The ants are starting to just hang out down in the tunnel.
Diggers to the left. Planning committee in progress to the right.
Merry Russian Christmas, BTW. Salut~
